Lee Seung Gi – When A Man Loves A Woman 2, Ballad

A follow-up to Lee Seung Gi’s 2006 release When a man loves a woman, When a man loves a woman Vol. 2 once again rolls out a galore of beautiful cover songs originally performed by other male artists. Twelve cover songs, including Park Hyo Shin’s Dong Kyung (“Yearning” – Track 5), Yoon Sang’s Yi Byeol Eh Geu Neul (“The Shades of Goodbye” – Track 2), Cho Kyu Man’s Da JoolKkuhYa (“Will Give You All” – Track 1), Kim Dong Uk’s Miryeonhan Sarang (“Foolish Love” – Track 3), Kim Kyung Ho’s Narul Sulpun Gae Ha Nun Saram Dul (“Persons Who Make Me Sad” – Track 4), and Park Jin Young’s Noe duieso (“Behind You” – Track 10), were carefully selected out of hundreds of songs. Some of the nation’s best songwriters and sessionists such as Lee Hyun Seong, Hwang Sung Jae, Kim Min Soo, and Choi Tae Wan, the original composers of songs like Da JoolKkuhYa (Track 1) and Narul Sulpun Gae Ha Nun Saram Dul (Track 4), collaborate to weave out a dazzling work of art that has Lee’s signature and style written all over it.

Super Junior`s Han Kyung to Carry Olympic Torch

SM Entertainment Agency announced that there was an online survey done by Coca-Cola China, a public sponsor of the Beijing Olympics (http://www.icoke.cn), and Han Kyung of Super Junior was voted first place as carrier of the 2008 Olympics torch. After deliberations, the Olympics organizational committee sealed the deal.

“The [Olympics] committee chose Han Kyung because they recognized his part in the cultural exchange of China through his activities in Korea and the rest of Asia,” the agency stated. “Han Kyung will be participating in the carrying of the Olympic torch in Beijing from August 6th to the 8th.”

Han Kyung will be taking his solemn oath at the “Coca-Cola National Olympic Torch-Bearer Ceremony” as a representative of the Olympic flame on the 24th in China. The ceremony will be broadcast on CCTV-5 and Guangdong TV, the official Chinese channels for the 2008 Olympics.

Han Kyung stated, “I’m extremely pleased and honored to be a torch-bearer for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.”

Shinhwa Members Celebrate 10th Anniversary of their Debut

The group Shinhwa recently filmed a music video for their 9th studio album. The music video was filmed in a field of reeds near a dinosaur fossil site in Songsan-myeon in Hwaseong City, Gyeonggi Province.

The scene involved five members rescuing Eric, who is held as a hostage by enemy gangsters.

March 24 marks the 10th anniversary of Shinhwa’s debut. The music video shoot was a special event as members Eric and Kim Dong-wan are preparing to begin their military services.

The members said the past decade felt more like a brief thunderstorm and thanked each other for staying the same over 10 years.

Jun Jin said he feels sad to watch his “brothers” go off to the miliary before him while Andy remarked that when he is hanging out with the group members, it feels as same as it did ten years ago.

After the release of their album, Shinhwa will hold a 10th anniversary concert after which the members will go their separate ways.

The group joked around by saying that in ten years all of the members will probably be married. They added, however, that even after ten years, they will be together, and if they had an opportunity to travel back ten years, they would choose to be a part of Shinhwa all over again.

8eight Vol. 2 – Infinity, Pop/R&B/Hip Hop (Released March 18, 2008)

 Wondering why 8eight, the popular trio band who rose to fame after grabbing the Grand Prix prize from Show Survival, named their sophomore album Infinity? The explanation is simple: just turn the infinity symbol by 90 degrees and you will see the number 8. Without a doubt, “unique” is their middle name and certainly how these three talents got their break in an industry inundated with newbies every year is in itself quite unique as well. The group consisting of leader Lee Hyun, Baek Chan, and sole female member Joo Hee, signed up for Show Survival, MBC’s music variety competition where newcomers like V.O.S, Super Kid, and Sweet Sorrow competed against one other for the ultimate grand prize. 8eight scooped the top honor and soon the group’s popularity was thrust to newfound heights.

The principal track Let Me Go (Track 1) features Jo PD, a popular singer/songwriter and one of K-pop’s most reputable producers. Sprinkling some lighthearted beats into the melancholic tune, the song has a familiar ring similar to the group’s debut hit Sarangeul Ilgo Nan Noraehane (“Forget About Love And Sing”). BoA and TVXQ, Natural-Born Singers (March 13, 2008)

Yoo Young-jin, singer-turned-songwriter for SM Entertainment’s singers, was full of praise for BoA and TVXQ.

In a recent interview with Yonhap News Agency, Yoo was asked which pop artist had displayed remarkable growth and potential. He answered, “I believed BoA to be unique even as I gave her “ID: Peace B,” her debut song…When I brought her the demo tape, the song was still rough and a bit unclear but at the recording three days later, she sang it with such clarity. It turned out better than I had originally imagined.”

He went on to explain that BoA had a “keen sense” when interpreting a musical piece. “She knows when to add rhythm and where the song needs to be sped up in tempo. Even now, BoA continues to grow,” he added.

During recording sessions with TVXQ, Yoo Young-jin said that he could “sense how much contemplation the boys put into their music.”

He commented, “[They] only have a week-long break during the year as they work in Korea and Japan. It’s exhausting but their vocal skills have grown exponentially in relation to their age.”

Girls’ Generation (SNSD) – Baby Baby Vol. 1 (Repackage) Release March 13, 2008

They may have grabbed attention initially as the girl version of Super Junior, but nine-member girl group Girls’ Generation succeeded in winning the hearts of K-pop fans with their own unique appeals. The group made their debut in August with the single Into The World, which stormed to the #1 spot on the M.net chart within two months of its release. In response to the high demand for their first self-titled album, Girls’ Generation which saw release in November of 2007, the girls are back with a repackaged version entitled Baby Baby containing all of the songs that featured in the original album plus 3 extra tracks.The titular track Girls’ Generation (Track 1) is a remake of Lee Seung Chul’s 1989 hit of the same name. Rearranged by accomplished composer Kenzie, the song appeals to both young and older generations, offering tunes reminiscent of the 1980s and full of youthful energy and funk. Other noteworthy tracks include the lively, rhythmic Ooh La-La! (Track 2) composed by Lee Jae Myung, house dance number Kissing You (Track 5), and Baby Baby (Track 3), a sweet confession of love written by Hwang Sung Je, whose previous works include BoA’s “Atlantis Girl”. Also, lyrical ballads such as Tears (Track 7) and Complete (Track 4) offer the group’s nine colorful vocals in perfect transparent harmony. Adding to the original track list are Kissing You (Track 12), “Let’s Go Girls’ Generation – Long Version” (Track 13) and “Let’s Go Girls’ Generation – Short Version” (Track 14). Girls’ Generation aims to be a new generation representing all generations.

[Album] Jewelry Vol. 5 – Kitchi Island, Pop (Released February 20, 2008)

 

From the catchy tunes of Again to the tropical sounds of Nega Chamjoah (“I Like You”), Jewelry’s signature hits have secured places in the K-pop scene since 2001. Though these four darlings are known for their sweet effervescent charm and beauty, they proved earlier on with their fourth album Super Star that they’re not just pretty faces, blasting away some powerful vocals over slamming rock beats. Like Fin.K.L and Baby VOX, members of Jewelry ventured out to pursue their own individual projects, with Park Jung Ah and Seo In Young successfully launching their solo albums. But in 2006, Lee Ji Hyun and Cho Min left the group and were recently replaced by new members, Ha Joo Yeon and Kim Eun Jung. With new faces igniting new sounds, Jewelry returns with their much anticipated fifth release Kitchi Island, better-equipped with more punches and funk than ever.
Shinhwa’s Lee Min Woo is no stranger to Jewelry when it comes to pitching in his own creative talents in their albums.
